THE FINNISH BRASS SEPTET – SOMETHING UNIQUE FROM FINLAND
The Guards Band has been active in Finland since 1819, which makes it the oldest still working orchestra in the country. It has gained reputation under various names: The Imperial Guards Band and The Guards Band (from 1901-1918). Since 1918 The Guards Band acts as the State official representative orchestra. The regular line-up includes 39 officers of music.
The turn of the 20th century was the golden era for the brass septet. Many renowned composers (e.g Jean Sibelius) wrote music for them. In addition to military bands, almost every region in those days had their city, factory, sawmill or youth brass septet.
